Should Control Theory Be Used for Economic Stabilization?*

چکیده

In a genetic-historical view of the fundamental revolution in outlook which represents the real beginning of modem natural science was the discovery that the inert objects of nature are not like men, i.e., subject to persuasion, exhortation, coercion, deception, etc., but are “inexorable.” The position which we have to combat seems to rest upon an inference, characteristically drawn by the “best minds” of our race, that since natural objects are not like men, men must be like natural objects (Knight, 1941, p. 121).

Control Theory and Economic Policy Optimization: The Origin, Achievements and the Fading Optimism from a Historical Standpoint

Economists were interested in economic stabilization policies as early as the 1930’s but the formal applications of stability theory from the classical control theory to economic analysis appeared in the early 1950’s when a number of control engineers actively collaborated with economists on economic stability and feedback mechanisms. The theory of optimal control resulting from the contributio...

Design of A No-chatter Fractional Sliding Mode Control Approach for Stabilization of Non-Integer Chaotic ‎Systems‎

A nonlinear chattering-free sliding mode control method is designed to stabilize fractional chaotic systems with model uncertainties and external disturbances. The main feature of this controller is rapid convergence to equilibrium point, minimize chattering and resistance against uncertainties. The frequency distributed model is used to prove the stability of the controlled system based on dir...

Robust stabilization of a class of three-dimensional uncertain fractional-order non-autonomous systems

This paper concerns the problem of robust stabilization of uncertain fractional-order non-autonomous systems. In this regard, a single input active control approach is proposed for control and stabilization of three-dimensional uncertain fractional-order systems. The robust controller is designed on the basis of fractional Lyapunov stability theory. Furthermore, the effects of model uncertai...

ارزیابی راهبردهای پولی بانک مرکزی ایران نسبت به شکاف تولید و انحراف تورم: رویکرد بوت_استرپ

Monetary policy is one of the most important macroeconomic policies which could be used for achieving economic targets such as reducing the output gap and reducing the inflation's deviation from it's target level.  These policies can be implemented through the control of volume of money or the rate of interest. Based on economic theories, the Central Bank should conduct monetary policies w...

Uncertainty, Political Preferences, and Stabilization: Stochastic Control Using Dynamic CGE Models

Traditional computable general equilibrium (CGE) models have ignored uncertainty ─ even when applied to fields such as environmental modeling that are replete with economic uncertainty. In contrast, many control theory models have focused on the effects of uncertainty. Thus marrying the tradition of CGE and control modeling can result in pricequantity models with explicit dynamics and careful t...
